CIRIA, an independent supplier of construction industry guidance and best practice, is working on a guidance for horizontal directional drilling (HDD), which will cover all aspects of planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and decommissioning a horizontal directional drilling installation.
Cathie Associates have announced that they are supporting and actively engaging with CIRIA in the initiation of the new project, which will be of great use to the offshore wind industry in reducing risk, construction problems and ultimately contributing to lower LCOE, the company said.
“During many years of involvement with offshore wind, Cathie Associates have encountered many successful and many problematic Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) projects associated with the landing of export cables. Various sources of existing guidance are available, some current, some dated and much of the guidance not UK specific. None of the guidance addresses specific marine issues.”
