In conjunction with Hull College and Jobcentre Plus, Maersk Training is hosting an Open Day on Tuesday, 21 July, to showcase the Level 1 Certificate in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF).

The open day will take place from 13:00 to 16:00 at Hull College, Room QG413, Queens Gardens, Wilberforce Drive, Hull HU1 3DG.

The day will follow the format of several other open days hosted by Maersk Training, which have attracted as many as 400 attendees. Also this time hundreds of jobseekers are expected to attend the Open Day event.

Successful candidates will need to ensure they are able to commence on Thursday 23rd July at 10:00. The delivery of the course will begin on Monday 27th July and will run for three days per week over four weeks.

Stuart Cameron, Managing Director at Maersk Training in Newcastle said: “Tough economic times mean unemployment rates are high but encouragingly, the offshore wind energy sector is expanding at a very fast pace and there are numerous opportunities for people seeking employment and looking to get into a thriving industry, however learning these safety skills is a vital prerequisite. This event will be particularly interesting to people who want to pursue a career in the offshore renewables sector. This part time qualification is suitable for anyone who would like to take the first step into retraining to get a job in the growing renewables industry.”

Funding is available for anyone aged over 19 and living in the local area. All course fees, including a contribution towards travel expenses are fully funded for anyone who meets the entry criteria.

The course covers an introduction to manual handling, first aid, working at heights, fire safety, basic electrical awareness and staying safe in the marine environment in the wind turbine sector, plus an introduction to employment and employability in the wind turbine industry.

Everyone who successfully completes the course will receive a Maersk Training Level 1 Certificate in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF). The aim of this qualification is to provide the essential knowledge of safety in the wind turbine industry.
