The European Union Research and Innovation Programme HORIZON 2020, selects Modular INNODRIVE project of INNOVO for its programme.

INNOVO pushed again technology beyond its limits implementing the Modular Reel Drive System “Modular INNODRIVE” for the SURF Business.

The Modular INNODRIVE technology brings a number of relevant innovation and improvements to life. The proposed solution, compared to existing products, enables to operate with a significantly wider range of reels, both in terms of reel’s diameter and weight. The result is an innovation that increases safety, flexibility, efficiency and efficacy of maritime cable laying operations. Giving the possibility to reduce the operational time and keeping the same reliability.

This innovation applies to the maritime cable laying sector, since technology and the market expressed the need for underwater physical interconnections for energy and power networks in sea environments. This requirement is considered to be one of the greatest challenges for a reliable and effective use of world resources.

The proposed Modular INNODRIVE is made of subsystems that can be easily positioned and adjusted in order to fit a range of reels’ diameters from 4 to 14 meters or over, without disassembling or lifting the equipment’s structure, thus giving the RDS a sort of “modularity”. With this patent pending system one is able to reduce the operational time of disassembly and assembling from days to hours, saving in this way valuable time.

The high product capacity of the Modular INNODRIVE guarantees to lift and operate with all the reels it can possibly fit. All the difficulties, risks, costs and time consuming, related to the offshore lifting operations of the RDS are minimized using the modular approach. The proposed solution, overcomes all aforementioned drawbacks allowing safer operation, reducing vessels and operations stand-by, mitigating risks and improving usability.
