ENGIE, know as GDF SUEZ until recently, announced at the beginning of this year that it plans to double its renewable energy generation and the company said today it is on a good path with constantly diversifying its power generating base by incorporating sources of renewable energy.

Around 50% of the company’s electricity generation in France comes from renewable sources, including wind power, marine energy, solar and biomass.

With an installed capacity of 1000 MW, which is expected to double next year, ENGIE stated that it leads the market for onshore wind power not only in France, but also in Belgium and Italy. The company added that it also leads the solar power sector in France, with a total gross installed generating capacity of 383 MW, and is the country’s second-largest generator of hydropower.

ENGIE expressed commitment to playing its part in developing the industry sectors of the future in offshore wind power, hydrokinetics, biomethane, solar, microalgae and concentrated solar power.
