During the 3rd Offshore Summit in the Port of Sassnitz, the Sassnitz-Mukran site was celebrated for being a focal point of offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea.
Major players in the energy industry, representatives from politics, industry and associations exchanged views on projects and potential of offshore wind, as well as the latest political developments and the issue of grid connection.
Harm Sievers, Managing Director of Port of Sassnitz GmbH , opened the event by saying: “We can proudly say today: The first major wind farm project was successfully implemented from Sassnitz-Mukran from. We are looking forward to the coming tasks.”
After wind turbines have been installed at the EnBW’s Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, new projects are about to kick off. Iberdrola’s Wikinger wind farm will be built from Sassnitz, starting in 2016, and the Arkona Becken Südost, developed by E.ON, will start construction in 2017.
In addition to the construction of offshore wind farms, the port is being enabled to accommodate operation and maintenance. Adjacent to the offshore terminal, a berth with a 350-meter quay has been renewed, while further expansion of the infrastructure is already being implemented.
