This week Sail Amsterdam is taking place in the capital city of the Netherlands. The event, held every 5 years, pays tribute to wind powered vessel of all shapes and sizes, from a time when offshore wind power had a very different meaning.
Some of the vessels are replicas of designs from previous centuries, some of them are genuine old timers that are lovingly restored and maintained in a seaworthy state, while others are examples of state of the art modern technology, just like our turbines powered by the same natural sustainable energy today.
