The first homemade 220KV photoelectric composite submarine cable, produced by Ningbo Oriental Group Co. Ltd., has recently been approved and accepted.

The cable will be used at the 400MW offshore wind power project, to promote the green development of the offshore wind power industry.

It is reported that the new cable is the first industrialization of the “development of the 220KV and below photoelectric composite submarine cable and the submarine connecting cable & production equipment” , a project undertaken by the Oriental Cable in 2007 and the first project sponsored by the national science and technology supporting plan in the electric wire and cable industry.

According to Zhou Zewei, Chief Engineer of the Oriental Cable, the difficulty of the project lies in the high voltage, the length of the cable and the lack of the connector. “There will be three cables altogether, with a total length of 36.35 kilometers. This first one is 12.35 kilometers long. The cable has to be completed once and for all, and that’s difficult.”

It is estimated that the project will bring a sales volume of over 100 million yuan for the Oriental Group.
