The Japanese conglomerate, Hitachi Ltd, has announced plans to further expand its involvement in the offshore wind industry.

Namely, the Tokyo-based company said it plans to add a nacelle production line for its 5MW wind power system by the end of March 2016, reported Bloomberg.

The line will be built in Ibaraki prefecture where the company already builds nacelles for 2MW systems.

Hitachi has developed a 5MW downwind offshore wind turbine which features permanent-magnet generator, medium-speed gearbox and a rotor diameter of 126 metres.

According to the company, the turbine is designed to withstand the typhoon conditions, making it suitable for condition offshore Japanese coast.
