HUSUM Wind trade fair, where industry businesses and representatives have came together to showcase their innovations and services – onshore and offshore – along the whole supply chain, has officially opened.

During the opening ceremony representatives of government, industry and associations emphasised the importance of wind power for the success of the transition to renewable energy and for Germany as a business base.

Uwe Beckmeyer, parliamentary secretary of state at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, said: “Wind energy is a central pillar of the transition to renewable energy usage and its development in Germany will in the future continue to be closely associated with Husum. The new ‘HUSUM Wind’ will be the shop window of the German market and will continue to give a boost to the industry.”

Almost 650 exhibitors from all areas of the wind industry are showing at HUSUM Wind. In addition to the wellknown industry leaders, this year the list of exhibitors also boasts many young and innovative enterprises.

Matthias Zelinger, managing director of VDMA Power Systems , still sees a lot more potential: “HUSUM Wind shows that wind energy in Germany is a strong industry where the domestic wind turbine manufacturers alone book an annual turnover of around 10 billion euros. Over 130,000 jobs depend on onshore wind energy, and 20,000 on offshore wind energy, and not just in the wind-rich regions, but throughout Germany. The basis for this this good condition is a good domestic market. Germany ranks third in the world for cumulated wind energy capacity. The expansion of wind energy in Germany has often been in fits and starts to date, and that burdens our wind industry. What we need to ensure continuous expansion are reliable policy frameworks for the energy transition. EEG and climate protection measures must dovetail with one another. When that occurs, the domestic manufacturers will be able to continue to develop, manufacture and export innovative products, such as in the partner state of Baden-Württemberg for example.”

After the opening event, Peter Becker led a guided tour of high-ranking politicians and industry leaders – besides the parliamentary secretary of state, the complete Schleswig-Holstein cabinet and Hamburg’s business senator Frank Horch – through the exhibition halls, giving an overview of the whole spectrum covered by HUSUM Wind.

The traditional reception at the town hall will take place this evening, hosted by the mayor of Husum and the Schleswig-Holstein state government. Numerous national and international delegations have been heralded for the coming days. There is also a comprehensive congress, and on 18 September, the last day of the fair, there is also the Windcareer job fair in the NordseeCongressCentrum, with information about everything to do with jobs, careers, training and further training in the wind industry.
