Dominion Virginia Power, which had frozen its offshore wind development planned off Virginia, has decided to once again invite bids for the construction of its project, most likely in the first three months of 2016, according to Bloomberg.

In April, the company announced that it had put on hold the Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP), as the project’s cost turned out to be much higher than expected. After calculating that the project would cost around USD 400 million, instead of the initially estimated USD 230 million, Dominion said it will work together with experts, both local and foreign, to find a way to cut down the cost.

The developer has now decided to invite bids from multiple companies, with each company carrying out only its portion of the work. The initial call for tender incorporated bidding on the entire project.

The offshore wind project will comprise two Alstom 6MW turbines.
