As part of its ongoing partnership with the local community, RWE Innogy UK’s Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm has donated five DVD/Blu Ray players to be shared amongst local charitable organisations.
The organisations were asked to nominate themselves along with a brief description of how the players would be used. After being inundated with applications, ultimately a decision was made to award North Denbighshire Domestic Abuse Service, Glyndwr Women’s Aid, Vale of Clwyd Mind, Flintshire Local Volunteer Council and Peulwys & District Partnership Board.
The successful applicants offered a variety of uses for the players. The Vale of Clwyd Mind is a leading mental health charity in both Wales and England that works with and supports numerous adults experiencing the widest range of mental distress. They offer individuals experiencing enduring mental health problems the opportunity to meet with others socially on a regular basis. Their Rhyl branch will now be able to run film clubs as part of their Connecting Minds project which aims to help engage people with mental health difficulties.
The North Denbighshire Domestic Abuse Service will put theirs to good use in their communal refuge, making it available for communal use for service users which include mothers and children escaping domestic abuse. As will the Glyndwr Women’s Aid which is based in Denbigh and also offers support for mothers and children escaping domestic abuse. Both organisations are funded by DCC Supporting People Programme Grant and are affiliated to Welsh Women’s Aid which is a national charity in Wales working to end domestic abuse and all forms of violence against women.
Sarah O’Mahony from the North Denbighshire Domestic Abuse Service commented: “NDDAS are very grateful for the kind donation of the Blu-ray DVD player. This will be used in our communal refuge to benefit four families and their children escaping domestic abuse. It will come as a great source of light relief and offer much needed respite at a time in need.”
Katy Woodington, RWE Innogy UK’s community investment officer said: “We’re delighted to award these Blu-Ray players to five very worthy charities and we look forward to hearing about all the good use they will be put to within the local community.”
The recent donation from Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm is part of a continuing commitment to support the local community that will see over £19 million made available to communities in the coastal areas of Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire. The fund will be distributed throughout the lifetime of the project and is now open for small applications up to £10,000 and for grants over £10,000.
