The nearshore wave energy technology, WaveRoller®, has got the second endorsement from Lloyd’s Register Energy (LRE).

The concept design was evaluated in accordance with Lloyd’s “Qualification of New Technology”- and “Qualification Management” –standards.

Lloyd’s Register Energy states that the qualification activities in the Technology Qualification (TQ) Plan describe an appropriate approach for demonstrating the technology goals as achievable. LRE further states that the concept is suitable for further development and qualification according to given standards.

The Certification process is a four-stage risk-based development leading to a full Technology Certificate. Lloyd’s Register Energy utilizes its considerable experience in marine assets to provide a valuable independent review of all stages of the 350 kW First Of A Kind device, due to be deployed in 2016.

Christopher Ridgewell, CTO at AW-Energy says: “This is a thorough process that requires effort, but with every step we can clearly see the benefits in minimising risks to secure the success of the project. Achieving this milestone is a testament to the versatility of the technology and the capability of our team and partners in the WaveRoller® network.”

“Lloyd’s Register is pleased to have awarded a Statement of Endorsement for AW-Energy’s QS1 Technology Qualification Plan following the dedicated work by Dr Tuula Maki and the AW-Energy team. AW-Energy has shown commitment to the long term certification of Waveroller and is undertaking a Technology Qualification process as a part of this. We continue to wish them every success with their next stages of development,” said Dr Rebecca Sykes, Marine Energy Leader at Lloyd’s Register Energy .

AW-Energy has cooperated with Lloyd’s Register Energy and DNV-GL to ensure excellence in key areas like reliability and availability. The company has commercial projects in Portugal, Ireland, UK, France, and on the American continent.
