Swedish power company Vattenfall reported that the Kentish Flats Extension has generated enough electricity for the annual consumption of 7,072 homes (based on the DECC’s figure provided for the average annual UK household consumption) since the first of fifteen MHI Vestas V112 3.3MW wind turbines installed off Whitstable and Herne Bay started generating power on August 29.
The company is proud of the fact that a portion of this electricity was generated in a two-week span in which KFE was not operating at full capacity, and construction works were being carried out to put the remaining fourteen wind turbines into operation.
The fifteenth and final MHI Vestas V112 3.3MW turbine started generating electricity on September 12.
To put the amount of electricity generated by KFE since August 29 into perspective, Vattenfall says that the National Grid has been provided with enough power for its users to make one billion cups of tea.
