The Danish-Swiss wind turbine optimizer ROMO Wind is extending its business activities to France, offering local contact and support for the company’s spinner anemometer technology iSpin which is now available to French wind farm operators.

Guillaume Steinmetz has been appointed to the position of a business manager for France and will lead ROMO Wind’s activites from Paris. Steinmetz has been working in the wind energy industry for the last nine years, with the last six years dedicated to the sales business for Siemens Wind and Nordex.

“By offering our iSpin technology to wind farm operators in France, we consistently follow our path of international growth. With Italy, the UK and Northern America, this is the fourth market we are entering this year. Guillaume Steinmetz knows the French wind industry very well and will be able to provide our French customers with the level of support they expect,” Jan Nikolaisen, Co-CEO of ROMO Wind, said.

ROMO Wind is now represented by regional teams in Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Ireland and France and has a cooperation with UpWind Solutions in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Guillaume Steinmetz, Business Manager for ROMO Wind in France, said: “France is, after Germany, Spain and the UK, the fourth biggest wind market in Europe with a total installed capacity of close to 10 GW. In 2014 alone, 1,042 MW of new installations were added – a solid growth which is expected to continue in the following years. Therefore, the potential for iSpin to help operators improve the performance of their turbines is enormous.”

iSpin uses ultrasonic technology to measure the wind where it first hits the turbine – directly at the spinner. In this way, operators gather accurate information on the wind conditions in front of the rotor, according to ROMO Wind. This enables them to check whether their turbines are aligned for the best possible yield. At the same time, the company says that the data allows for optimised wind farm management and load reduction, which prolongs the total life of turbines.
