AMBAU started fabricating the 43m long tower sections for Nordergründe wind farm’s turbines at its facilities in Cuxhaven.

The company said this is a result of an integrated design approach of a tower, transition piece and monopile foundation. The remaining required tower length will be realized by a combined tower-TP (Long-TP).

In addition to the tower sections, AMBAU will also produce the transition pieces and monopiles for Nordergründe, thus manufacturing the complete steel structure below the nacelle. The whole steel part from the nacelle down to the seabed has an end-to-end diameter of 5,5m, with a total weight of about 10,500 tonnes.

The Nordergründe offshore wind farm is being constructed at a water depth of 10m within the 12-nautical mile zone of the German North Sea and is located approximately 15km north-east of the island of Wangerooge. The 110MW wind farm will feature Senvion’s 6MW turbines.

Nordergründe is the first German offshore project for which the work will be exclusively delivered and installed by German companies.

Senvion is providing the turbines, AMBAU is in charge of foundations, BVT will work on the substation, NSW on internal cabling and Bilfinger will provide installation services.
