Denmark’s Samso offshore wind farm, also known as Paludans Flak, is out of action after one of the turbines collapsed and crashed into the sea early Saturday morning, Søren Hermansen, Director of the Samso Energy Academy, confirmed to Offshore WIND.
The break happened on a steel tower of the turbine Number 7, after which the turbine’s blades and nacelle fell into the sea.
The 10 2.3MW Siemens turbines at Paludans Flak have been in operation since 2003.
Technicians have been sent out to retrieve the computer data from the turbine to determine the cause of the accident. The turbine has been written off as a total loss.
The damaged turbine was switched off, and the remaining nine were stopped until further notice.
Paludans Flak offshore wind farm was built by the Municipality of Samso and private investors, including the Samso Energy Academy.
