The Samsø offshore wind farm has been put back into operation after an incident in which one of the farm’s 10 turbines broke off and fell into the sea, Siemens confirmed to Offshore WIND.

The incident in which the nacelle, hub and blades of the 2.3-MW wind turbine fell into the sea happened at around 09:40 am local time, November 28.

No one was injured, and no one was working in or near the turbine at the time of the incident, Siemens said in the statement.

As a precautionary measure, the remaining 9 turbines at the Samsø offshore wind farm, also known as Paludans Flak, had been taken out of operation until physical inspections could be conducted.

These units have now been inspected and were found to be acceptable for normal operations.

The root cause analysis is continuing, and there is no further information about this incident available at this time.

The impacted turbine was installed by Bonus Energy in 2002. Siemens acquired Bonus Energy in 2004. The owner of the wind farm is Samsø Havvind.
