Following media reports about Fred. Olsen Renewables pledging to invest in the US Icebreaker offshore wind project, the company said that such decision has not been made so far.
“We have not taken a stake in the project at the present time – a decision on whether to invest will be taken later,” Fred. Olsen Renewables said in a statement.
The company explained it is working on de-risking the project, which is planned to be built in Ohio waters of Lake Erie by LEEDCo – Lake Erie Energy Development Co. This includes funding a geotechnical programme that was recently completed, Fred. Olsen Renewables pointed out.
“Fred. Olsen Windcarrier have also teamed up with LEEDCo to provide expertise covering a variety of installation solutions,” the company added.
In June, LEEDCo announced that the project will use Mono Bucket foundation developed by Universal Foundation, a company owned by one of the Fred. Olsen specialist companies.
