Hamburg-based HSH Nordbank will, for the first time ever, set aside more than EUR 1 billion to finance clean energy projects in 2016, the state-owned lender told Bloomberg.
HSH Nordbank was the biggest lender to green companies in 2014, and has distributed around EUR 900 million in loans to renewable energy projects in 2015, Lars Quandel, HSH Nordbank’s Head of Infrastructure & Engineering department, said in an interview with Bloomberg.
The bank will use the 2015 business blueprint in 2016, with the additional funds expected to go to projects in Sweden and Norway, Quandel said.
The bank was the biggest clean energy project finance lender in Europe in 2014 and strives to retain a dominance in lending to green companies, said Lars Quandel, head of HSH’s energy and infrastructure unit.
HSH will also look into investing in Poland, as well as in more mature clean energy markets such as Germany and France. Another possibility is investments into southern Europe-based projects with power purchase agreements.
