Maersk Training in Newcastle is inviting South Tyneside residents aged 19 or over to enroll onto its range of funded and accredited education programmes designed to support individuals gain entry into the offshore wind energy market.

For anyone aged 19 – 24, places are available on the Wind Turbine Technician Traineeship. This career transition programme provides individuals with the background knowledge and industry qualifications necessary to work in the offshore energy sector, including: Level 2 Diploma in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF), Functional Skills in English and Maths and a guaranteed work placement with a local employer.

Alternatively for those aged 19 or over who are interested in a career in the offshore wind energy sector, spaces are available on the Level 2 Diploma in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF). This 12 week, full-time diploma provides the essential mandatory skills and knowledge of safety required in the wind energy industry. This is suited for experienced Engineers and Technicians from other industries who are considering a career change and also for entry level delegates taking their first step towards applying for vacancies in the wind industry.

Maersk Training also plans to hold an Open Day event to introduce the available courses. The Open Day will be held between 9.30 am – 4.00 pm local time on Wednesday 16 March 2016 at One Trinity Green, Eldon Street, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE331SA. Those interested will be able to register and meet representatives from Maersk Training.

Funding is available for both programmes, subject to meeting the entry requirements. With over 68% of delegates moving into employment after completing the courses, spaces can quickly become limited, according to Maersk Training.

“Tough economic times mean unemployment rates are high but encouragingly, the offshore wind energy sector is expanding at a very fast pace and there are numerous opportunities for people seeking employment and looking to get into a thriving industry, however learning these safety skills is a vital prerequisite,” Stuart Cameron, Managing Director of Maersk Training in Newcastle, said.

”We all need that opportunity to kick start our careers and the work placement is a key part of that process. Not only does it help the individual gain practical experience, it also offers many benefits to potential employers. These include; gaining access to people with the skills and qualities that businesses require, enabling existing staff to improve their mentoring skills by passing on their own knowledge and helping a business’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.”
