Seajacks Scylla had her maiden call in IJmuiden on 14 March.

The 139m long installation vessel, dedicated to the offshore energy market, can be adjusted to any project, which is the reason of Scylla’s visit to IJmuiden.

The first project for the vessel is the installation of monopiles for German Veja Mate offshore wind farm, where she will install 67 foundations, each heavier than 1,300t.

To install the monopiles properly, a monopile gripper needs to be used. The gripper, made by Breman Offshore in IJmuiden, guides the foundation when they are being driven into the seabed.

The first load out of 67 monopiles at the base port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands is expected at the start of April 2016.

The wind farm will be built some 95km north west of the island of Borkum in the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Full commercial operation is slated for the end of 2017.
