During the unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys at the Rampion offshore wind site, two unexploded items have been found.

The bombs, possibly from the Second World War 2 or even earlier, were located within close vicinity of each other within the offshore site. Nevertheless, the offshore construction is not affected by the UXO discovery.

E.ON has issued a notice to mariners outlining a 500m exclusion zone. Also, a marker buoy has been positioned so the sea users can stay clear until the unexploded items have been retrieved or disposed.

“Safety remains our highest priority and experts are currently determining the best course of action. Local people should not be concerned,” a spokesman from E.ON said.

The 400MW Rampion offshore wind project is being developed by E.ON, the UK Green Investment Bank, and Canadian energy company Enbridge 13km off the Sussex coast. It is expected to be fully commissioned in 2018.
