RWE Innogy UK has announced that 10 local groups and charities have benefited from the latest round of awards from its Rhyl Flats Wind Farm Community Fund by securing grants totalling over £67,000.
This recent round of funding has seen a number of schools and charities benefit, including Aberconwy Mind, a mental health charity awarded £9,699 for a pilot outreach programme which will employ a part-time worker who will engage with the local community, and Gwrych Castle, which has been boosted by grant of £9,656 to be used to support the provision of a permanent site manger which will create up to 65 work placements.
Katy Woodington , RWE Innogy UK’s Senior Community Investment Officer, said: “It’s exciting to see these awards come through and especially rewarding to see the wind farm support so many varied groups within the local community. Over the project’s lifetime the fund will be worth more than £2 million which we hope will make a significant long term difference to community development in the area.”
The Rhyl Flats Community Fund is administered independently by the Conwy Community Fund Panel and the Welsh Government.
Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, Lesley Griffiths , said: “I am very pleased these 10 Conwy projects will share almost £70,000. These projects will have a wide-ranging impact on local people, helping families affected by separation to keep in contact, boosting people’s health and well-being, and enabling people to develop the skills they need to get employment.
