The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult appointed Dame Anne Glover DBE to its Board as a Non-Executive Director today.

Following a three year term, Baroness Helen Liddell of Coatdyke PC has stepped down from the Board.

A biologist and academic, Dame Anne Glover is Vice Principal for External Affairs and Dean for Europe at the University of Aberdeen, and a former Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission and Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland. She was joint chair of the Scottish Science Advisory Committee and served on the Scottish Council of Economic Advisers until her appointment to the European Commission in 2012.

ORE Catapult Chairman Colin Hood said: “Her considerable experience of science, technology and innovation, and of shaping both UK and European policy, will prove invaluable at a critical time for the offshore renewables industry as we seek to drive technology innovation to lower the cost of energy from the UK’s extensive offshore renewable resources.

“I want to extend warm and sincere thanks to Baroness Liddell for her commitment to ORE Catapult over the past three years. Her insight and counsel have been a vital asset as we have grown the Catapult from its inception to the successful and impactful business that it is today.”

Dame Anne Glover said: “One of the most exciting prospects we face is to harness renewable energy. For this reason, I am delighted to join the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

“Any new technology poses both challenges and opportunities and the ORE Catapult is the catalyst to procure and harness knowledge, engage industry (large and small) and to accelerate the delivery of sustainable energy options. I greatly look forward to contributing to that process.”

Baroness Liddell of Coatdyke said: “In the past three years the ORE Catapult has achieved a huge amount, not least in its successful merger with Narec and delivery of extensive collaborative industrial and research programmes. I wish it every success in the next stage of development in the vital quest to promote secure and sustainable energy supplies.”
