Galloper Wind Farm Limited (GWFL), the developers of the 336MW Galloper offshore wind farm, have teamed up with EDF Energy’s Sizewell B nuclear power station to launch a new community fund in Suffolk.

The Leiston and Sizewell Community Fund will be distributed over a seven year period. Over GBP 85,000 will be made available for community projects in a 10-kilometre radius of Sizewell, with applications welcome throughout the year.

The new fund has been established as a condition for GWFL’s use of EDF Energy’s land for substation equipment for Galloper.

The fund will be administered by Sizewell B and allocated by a committee formed by representatives from Sizewell B, GWFL and Community Action Suffolk.

Christine Abraham, Director of Community Services from Community Action Suffolk said: “The announcement of this new grant programme is fantastic news for local community groups and organisations in the Leiston area. There is already inspiring work happening in and around the town, and I look forward to seeing the range of new activities that will be delivered with the support of this funding.”

The GBP 1.5 billion Galloper project is a joint equity partnership of 25% each between RWE Innogy UK, UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital. RWE Innogy is leading the development and construction of the project, on behalf of GWFL.

The wind farm is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard, and is scheduled to commence operations by March 2018.
