STX France SA has won the contract to design, build and install a HVAC offshore substation for the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm.

STX France will perform an EPCI contract for the jacket foundation, the piles, and the substation topside. The contract includes a one year maintenance period, following the substation’s delivery in 2018.

The company has already selected the main partners for this project. Schneider Electric will provide the full electrical package and ABB will supply the electrical transformers.

Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) will be in charge of the transport and installation operations.

STX France has been working on the design of the substation since July 2015, and the construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2016.

E.ON has a 50% stake in Arkona and is in charge of building and subsequent operating of the wind farm. Statoil holds the remaining 50% stake in this EUR 1.2 billion project.

Arkona is situated in the German part of the Baltic Sea and will comprise 60 6MW Siemens turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

“We are delighted that EON, major operator in offshore wind, has entrusted us with the engineering and overall management of a turnkey project that should become a flagship in the marine energy. This new order confirms that we are providing the market with leading edge, value-adding, solutions for offshore power transmission” said Frederic Grizaud, Director of STX France Offshore Energy BU.
