The Danish Nature Agency (Naturstyrelsen) is initiating its first public consultation on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process of the land-based technical elements for the Viking Link project in Denmark on Monday, 30 May.

Viking Link is a proposed 1,400 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electricity link between the British and Danish transmission systems connecting at Bicker Fen substation in Lincolnshire and Revsing substation in southern Jutland, Denmark.

The project is being jointly developed by UK’s National Grid Viking Link Ltd (NGVL) and Denmark’s transmission systems operator Energinet.dk.

The project will involve the construction of a converter station in each country and the installation of submarine and underground cables between each converter station and underground cables between the converter station and substation in each country.

Viking Link will be approximately 760 kilometres long and will allow electricity to be exchanged between Great Britain and Denmark.

Land-based construction in Denmark includes installation of two underground high voltage DC cables from the west coast of Jutland to the existing 400 kV substation Revsing near Vejen, which will be upgraded with new equipment. A converter station to convert electricity between DC and AC will also built in Revsing.

Anyone interested in the project can join two information sessions organised by the Nature Agency and Energinet.dk.

The information sessions will be held in Vejen on 13 June from 7 to 9 PM local time, and in Varde on 14 June, from 2 PM to 8 PM local time.

The public consultation lasts until Tuesday, 28 June 2016.
