London Array today marks three years of operation, after it was inaugurated on 4 July 2013 in Margate, Kent.
In April 2013, the London Array broke the Guinness world record by becoming the largest wind farm worldwide.
During the first full winter of generation , the offshore wind farm produced 1.5TWh of clean power. The second full year of generation has seen output from the offshore wind farm pass the 5TWh mark.
In December 2015 , the wind farm’s 175 turbines generated 369,000MWh of electricity – 52,000MWh more compared to the previous best of 317,000MWh set a month earlier. The two successive months of production brought net overall output for the year to some 2,500,000MWh, enough to meet the needs of more than 600,000 UK households.
The £1.5 billion project is a joint venture by energy companies DONG Energy, E.ON and Masdar.
