GE Renewable Energy has shared an image of two of the five Haliade 150 6MW nacelles ready to be loaded and start their journey across the Atlantic to the Port of Providence, Rhode Island, and become the heart of the first turbines ever to generate power offshore the USA at the 30MW Block Island wind farm.
The five nacelles were manufactured at GE’s factory in Saint-Nazaire, France.
Blue Water Shipping has already transported the turbine towers from Spain and the blades from Denmark to Providence where Blue Water USA is in charge of heavy lifting and storage of turbine components.
The turbine components will be transported to the site some three miles off Block Island and installed at the beginning of August, Deepwater Wind, the owner and developer of the wind farm, said.
The export cables linking the wind farm to Block Island and further to the mainland have been installed , and the laying of inter-array cables is expected to start this month.
The wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in the third quarter of 2016.
