Almost half of the foundations have already been laid at the 350MW Wikinger wind farm, which is being built in German waters of the Baltic Sea, Iberdrola reported today as part of its results for the first half of the year.

Iberdrola’s Renewables business unit recorded an EBITDA of EUR 836.5 million in the first half of 2016, down 3%, mainly due to lower production in the UK, the company said.

Business performance was particularly good in Spain, the company said, where EBITDA grew by 22.7% to €319.7 million, driven by a 7% increase in output. Renewables also recorded good progress in the United States, with an EBITDA of US$311 million (up 3.9%) and a 10.3% increase in output. In the United Kingdom, however, output fell by 26.2% affecting EBITDA which dropped to £116.6 million (-34.4%).

Overall, Iberdrola obtained a gross operating profit (EBITDA) of €3.892 billion in the first half of 2016, up by 1.4% on the same period a year ago.

Wikinger will comprise 70 foundations, supporting Adwen’s 5MW wind turbines, with Bladt Industries in charge of supplying 41 jackets and a consortium between Navantia and Windar responsible for 29 of them.

The EUR 1.4 billion Wikinger is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2017.
