Dutch OOS International Group B.V. has signed a fixed contract for the engineering and construction of two Semi-Submersible Crane Vessels (SSCVs) with China Merchant Industry Holdings which will be used for installation and decommissioning of offshore wind structures.

OOS will equip its two new SSCV’s, named OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren, with two heavy lift cranes, with a total dual lifting capacity of 4400T per vessel.

The heavy lifting and service cranes will be provided by Huisman Equipment BV, which can be utilised for the (de)commissioning of subsea structures, foundations, moorings, floating and heavy lift platforms for offshore wind structures in deep water. A total of 600T can be heave compensated, installed, or removed at 3,000 meters water depth, OOS said.

In addition, the units will provide hotel services for 750 people in mainly single and twin cabins. These hotel services will be used during the preparation work prior to the execution of actual heavy lifting projects. In between projects, the vessels will have a transit speed up to 12 knots, OOS said.

Léon Overdulve, Founder and owner of Holding OOS International Group B.V., said: “ OOS took a quantum leap within the Oil & Gas / Wind Industry. OOS Serooskerke & OOS Walcheren are ordered. This is a result of our innovative and unstoppable Dutch spirit.”

The engineering and construction phase is estimated to be completed in Q2 2019 for the OOS Serooskerke, and Q3 2019 for OOS Walcheren.

“The achievement of this contract with CMIH Shipyard will provide the end-client with a bespoke solution for the Oil & Gas/Wind market, resulting in significant cost reductions. Today’s Oil & Gas economics does not hold us back. The fact that we decided to continue with our plans by introducing niche products to the Oil & Gas/Wind Industry in the current market situation, shows our strong long-term commitment, as well our trust in this great novel concept,” said Overdulve.
