Excavation and dredging works at the cable landing area in Kallioholma, where the power cable from Finnish 40MW Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm will come ashore, will start next week, Suomen Hyötytuuli informed via social media.

In June, seabed preparation works started at the wind farm site, including dredging and excavation to prepare the seabed for Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm’s ten foundations and subsea cables. The works are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Jan De Nul was chosen as the main contractor for marine construction in March 2016. The company is in charge of dredging, seabed construction work, and the installation of foundations and wind turbines.

Technip Offshore Finland will supply gravity-based steel foundations, ABB is in charge of the substation and main transformers, and Prysmian Finland will deliver the subsea cable for the wind farm.

The EUR 120 million Finnish offshore wind farm will comprise ten 4MW Siemens turbines scheduled for commissioning during the autumn of 2017. The project is the world’s first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions.
