Atlantic Marine has ordered upgrades for three of its ROGE ROV systems from Aberdeen-based Fathom Systems.

Atlantic Marine and ROGE Systems today placed orders with the original software designer company to “future proof and improve” the ROGE ROV systems.

The six-figure order not only upgrades all of the existing ROGE ROV control systems, but also adds new functionality, reliability and a complete new topside package of software using the latest technology in high resolution touch screens and joystick control which will allow these units to do the same tasks as a WROV but with greater scope for the heavy subsea lift and recovery operations, Atlantic Marine said.

Gareth Kerr , Managing Director of Fathom Systems, said: “The ROGE vehicles have been operating reliably for over 10 years using the original iVP control consoles, and this upgrade will deploy our recently developed Windows based ROGE control software. Systems will benefit from features and capabilities not previously available with the hardware controls and will provide a scalable common platform for all ROGE systems in the Atlantic Marine fleet.

“By providing a full spares and support package for each of the vehicles through our responsive technical services department the operational availability of the systems will be assured.”

Among others, the upgrades will include “auto heading” control, which is ideal for sonar and multibeam operations on trench and pipelines as well as UXO surveys, according to Atlantic Marine.

One of the vessels fitted with a ROGE ROV system is Atlantic Explorer, used for UXO boulder clearance, inspections, subsea trenching, mattress lay, trenching and salvage operations with the ROGE ROV subsea excavator.
