ENGIE Fabricom-Tractebel and Iemants have joined forces to carry out engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of an offshore substation and an associated jacket for the 396MW Merkur offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

ENGIE Fabricom is in charge of the overall integration of all systems of the offshore substation which will be built throughout 2016 and 2017 at the ENGIE Fabricom construction yard in Hoboken. In addition to that, ENGIE Fabricom is responsible for all LV and auxiliary systems.

Tractebel is responsible for the basic and detailed engineering, procurement, testing and commissioning of the HV/MV equipment for the 33/155 kV offshore substation.

Iemants, part of the Smulders Group, will provide the basic and detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication and corrosion protection of the steel constructions for the topside and the jacket.

This will be the first joint venture between Tractebel and ENGIE Fabricom, both part of the ENGIE Group, in which the two companies will take on the role of an EPC contractor.

The load-out of the 2,600 ton jacket is planned for August 2017, while the 1,600 ton substation is scheduled for load-out in November 2017.

On 12 August, Merkur Offshore GmbH confirmed the financial close for the EUR 1.6 billion Merkur wind farm located approximately 45 km north of the Borkum island.

The construction of the wind farm will be under a dual contract structure with GE and DEME’s GeoSea.

The project will feature 66 Haliade 150-6MW offshore wind turbines, representing the first large-scale commercial deployment of GE’s offshore wind turbines in Europe.
