Rampion Set For Flurry of Offshore Works

Fugro’s multi-purpose offshore vessel Saltire is expected to start burying inter-array cables at the 400MW Rampion offshore wind farm on Sunday, 4 September.

The Saltire will use a Q1400 trenching system to bury the 122 cables.

Another Fugro vessel, the offshore support vessel Symphony, has been installing the inter-array cables at the site some 13km off the Sussex coast, between Brighton and Lancing, since 8 August.

HBC Offshore Solutions Ltd has been providing the rigging teams and cable installation equipment supporting Fugro during the installation of the cables at both the wind farm’s 116 WTG’s and the offshore substation.

VBMS is also on site, with the multipurpose barge Fetsy L currently performing duct extension installation and the split hopper barges SM-MB3-3 and SM MB1 carrying out floatation pit dredging.

The company’s cable lay vessel Stemat Spirit is expected to start installing the export cable at the site on 12 September.

Scaldis is scheduled to deploy its heavy lift vessel Rambiz to install the jacket for the wind farm’s offshore substation on 17 September.

Rampion will comprise 116 turbines each with a generating capacity of 3.45 MW. The 116 turbine foundations are currently being installed by MPI Offshore’s MPI Discovery and Swire Blue Ocean’s Orca.

Van Oord will send out its hopper barge HAM602 to the site on 10 October to carry out scour protection installation.

The GBP 1.3 billion Rampion ofshore wind farm is being built by E.ON, the Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge. Construction is expected to be completed in 2018.
