DONG Energy will hold two community events in Grimsby and Stallingborough to give local people a chance to find out more about the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

When built, the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm by a considerable margin, capable of providing enough renewable energy for well over 1 million homes, DONG Energy pointed out.

The exhibitions will provide members of the local community with an opportunity to find out more about the onshore cable installation works, with members of the project team on hand to answer questions about the construction works.

The cable route will run approximately 38km from the landfall site at Horseshoe Point to the onshore substation at North Killingholme. Once installed, the onshore cable will transmit the electricity generated by the offshore wind farm to the onshore substation and then onto the electricity grid.

Duncan Clark , programme director, said: “We know how important it is to engage with the community at every stage of the project, listen to their views and give them the opportunity to meet some of the project team. We want people to feel informed about the project and to know where to go if they have any questions. We strongly urge anyone who is interested to come see us and find out more.”

Hornsea Project One will span an area of approximately 407 square kilometres and will feature 7MW wind turbines.

The project has the potential to create around 2,000 jobs during its construction phase with up to 300 additional jobs supported directly and indirectly throughout its operational phase.
