Next Geosolutions and RMS Submarine are some two months away from wrapping up a 17-month project involving marine surveys for cable route design and engineering of multiple 220kV HVAC grid connections for Arkona and Wikinger offshore wind farms in the western Baltic Sea.

Next Geosolutions has been hired by Prysmian, which was awarded a contract to deliver and install the power cable systems for West of Adlergrund cluster by 50Hertz in 2014.

The marine survey project includes nearshore and offshore multibeam, geophysical, UXO, geotechnical, and beach landing topographic surveys, as well as ROV inspection operations.

RMS has resourced multiple nearshore and offshore vessel solutions along with integrated survey equipment, inspection ROV and CPT geotechnical equipment.

The company provided numerous personnel throughout the six-month phase of the project in 2015. During the 11-month campaign this year, RMS has continued to support Next Geosolutions with technical aspects as required, key asset sourcing and the supply of offshore personnel.

Prysmian’s West of Adlergrund connection projects involve the design, supply and installation of multiple high voltage submarine cable systems between planned offshore wind farms, approximately 40km north-east of the island of Ruegen, to the Lubmin substation in North East Germany, and consequently with the mainland electricity grid, along a subsea route of approximately 90km and 3km on land.

The 220 kV HVAC 3-core extruded cables, including fibre optic cable system, will be produced at Prysmian’s facilities in Pikkala (Finland) and Arco Felice (Naples, Italy).

Marine cable laying will be performed using the Cable Enterprise DP 2 vessel.
