Sif Holding, a Dutch-based manufacturer of large steel tubulars for offshore wind turbine foundations, has completed the first monopiles in the new assembly facility at Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam.
The first monopiles that will leave the assembly facility at Maasvlakte II are being built for the Galloper offshore wind project off the east coast of the UK.
On 4 September, the first sections for monopiles arrived at the company’s new assembly facility at Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam from the factory in Roermond where all the parts for the monopiles are being produced.
The construction of the assembly facility at Maasvlakte II is on schedule and at a stage that the assembly of monopiles could commence.
The coating of the monopiles will start in the fourth quarter of 2016 with the first load out of monopiles scheduled for December 2016.
In June 2015, Sif signed and agreement with the Port of Rotterdam for the construction of a production, storage and load-out terminal at Maasvlakte II. In July 2016, the company entered an agreement with BOW Terminal Vlissingen for work on the coordination and implementation of both horizontal and vertical transport for all Sif projects at the new terminal.
