North Sea Wind Feeds German Grid with 5.18TWh in H1

In the first half of 2016, German wind power generation amounted to 41.1TWh with a significantly increased share of offshore wind, according to TenneT.

TenneT transmitted 5.18TWh of wind power from the North Sea in the first six months, which is 2.3 times as much as in the same period of 2015 when 2.26TWh of offshore wind was fed to the grid. The wind farms in the Baltic Sea generated 0.61TWh in the first half of the year, so that the total offshore output was 5.79TWh. Onshore wind accounted for the rest 35.3TWh.

The transmission system operator has put into operation eight connection systems with a combined capacity of 4.305MW for the transmission of offshore wind energy. As of June 30, 2016, the capacity of the offshore wind farms in the North Sea amounted to 3,215MW. The highest total feed-in capacity so far was 2,686MW and was measured in May.

The expansion targets foresee 6,500MW of offshore wind capacity by 2020, and TenneT said it will meet the expansion targets of the federal government at an early stage and complete four additional connection systems by the end of 2019, so that approximately 7,100MW of transmission capacity will be available in the North Sea.
