UK’s Ofgem will launch competitive tenders for offshore transmission licences for the 336MW Galloper and the 660MW Walney Extension wind farm on 27 February, 2017.
Ofgem initially planned to kick off the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) tender for the two wind farms in March 2017.
The two links are part of Ofgem’s OFTO Tender Round 5.
The tendering procedure for the remaining three wind farms, the 402MW Dudgeon, the 580MW Race Bank, and the 400MW Rampion, is expected to start on 10 October, 2016.
The five links have an estimated value of GBP 2 billion in total and a generation capacity of 2.3 GW, making the tender round 5 the one to date, Ofgem said.
Ofgem will choose the most competitive bids from companies to own and run links to the offshore sites over a 20-year period.
