Siemens has recently taken delivery of a heavy cargo “roll on/roll off ” (RoRo) coaster specifically designed for the transportation of wind turbine parts.

The Rotra Vente, delivered and commissioned by The Concordia Group, is 141 meters long and 20 meters wide.

The vessel has a specially developed bow and the extendable ramp controlled by hydraulic systems.

The ship’s RoRo feature makes it possible to roll in and roll out cargo to and from the deck.

Siemens will use the Rotra Vente mainly in the North Sea area for the transportation of mast, nacelles, and rotor blades for wind turbines.

The specially designed detachable roof protects the cargo on the vessel from sea water and weather conditions.

The Concordia Group used a hull of an existing container ship as the base for the vessel.

The second vessel, the Rotra Mare, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.
