Kinewell Energy’s KLOC software has been Highly Commended at the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) annual international innovation awards, in two categories; Power Engineering and Model-Based Engineering.
The Kinewell Layout Optimisation of Cable (KLOC) software designs and optimises the geographic electrical connections that link offshore wind turbines to a substation with subsea cables, saving up to GBP 30 million per GW, according to the company.
“The use of models in this application was clear and impactful. The multi-criteria optimisation of cable layout was particularly interesting,” the judges at the IET annual awards commented.
Managing Director Andrew Jenkins said: “It was an honour to be recognised for our world leading technological solution that will save vast sums of money in the development of large scale renewable energy.“
Kinewell launched the KLOC software in November 2015, following two years of research and development.
