STX France has started fabrication works for the offshore substation that will be installed at the Rentel offshore wind farm site in Belgium.
The first steel cutting for the substation took place yesterday at STX France’s yard in Saint-Nazaire.
Design of both the foundation and the topside has been carried out by STX France. The substation will comprise a 1,600t monopile foundation and a 1.200t topside.
The Rentel offshore substation is scheduled for delivery in spring 2018.
STX France won the EPCI contract for the offshore substation at the beginning of this year. The contract covers the design, fabrication, transport, offshore installation and commissioning of a monopile foundation and topside, including high voltage and ancillary equipment.
