Aibel has been awarded further work on Hywind Scotland Pilot Park after Statoil assigned the company to assist with the commissioning of five floating wind turbines for the project.

The assembly work will take place at Stord, Norway, prior to towing the wind turbines to Scotland, with Aibel being a part of the Statoil team at Stord.

Mobilisation is set to begin in the coming week and start-up at Stord the week after.

The project has duration of around six months, of which the last month will take place in Scotland, when Aibel will primarily be responsible for removal of temporary equipment.

Previously, Aibel has been in charge of engineering of substructures and towers, system engineering and procurement for Hywind Scotland. In addition, Aibel has a function as fabrication support at the yards in Spain, where towers and substructures are manufactured.

Hywind Scotland will comprise five floating 6MW turbines installed approximately 25km off the coast of Peterhead, with a generating capacity of 135GWh of electricity each year. It is expected that the world’s first floating offshore wind farm could power up to 19,900 households.

The project is owned by Statoil (75%) and Masdar (25%).
