A section of one of the export cables for the 400MW Rampion offshore wind farm was cut out due to a fault in the fibre optic communications core, E.ON, the developer of the wind farm, told Offshore WIND.
The section will be jointed in the second quarter of 2017, E.ON said, adding that the matter has not had any impact on the construction schedule.
The next stage of the project is the turbine installation, scheduled to commence in spring, as planned.
The two 16-kilometre 150kV HVAC export cables were installed at the site by VBMS in December 2016.
The GBP 1.3 billion Rampion ofshore wind farm is owned by E.ON, the Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge.
It will consist of 116 MHI Vestas turbines, each with a generating capacity of 3.45MW.
Located 13 kilometres off the Sussex coast, between Brighton and Lancing, the wind farm is expected to be completed in 2018.
