Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) is preparing for work on three upcoming offshore wind projects, for which the company signed contracts last year, while also nearing completion for several projects currently underway.

The cable fabrication and the first offshore operation at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in the UK are planned to start in the first quarter 2017, with the project now progressing in the engineering and procurement phase, according to the company, which was awarded the contract for the turnkey supply and installation package of the inner-array grid cable system for Beatrice by SHL Offshore Contractors BV in June 2016. The cables will be delivered by JDR , with Tekmar Energy providing cable protection.

Furthermore, the company has begun engineering work for Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB) under the pre-work contract. For the German offshore wind farm, SOC was awarded a contract for a turnkey supply and installation of the inner array grid cable system in November 2016 . Offshore installation works are expected to start in Q3 2018.

SOC has also started with engineering work for the Hornsea Project One, where it will install 81 submarine composite cables for the inner-array connection, as well as provide the associated post-lay trenching works. The inter-array cables for two thirds of the total Hornsea Project One capacity will also be provided by JDR . Offshore installation works are expected to begin in Q4 2018.

Meanwhile, all offshore works have been completed on the Nordsee One inner array grid with the export cable works on track for completion and delivery in the second quarter of this year. All remaining offshore testing work is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter 2017, SOC said.

In addition, the company said the Veja Mate inter-array project is progressing ahead of schedule and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2017.

The updates were reported as part of SOC’s financial results published today, where the company reported that its submarine power cable activities had generated gross revenues of USD 64.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2016, up from USD 29.0 million in the same period the year before.

SOC also said that its ‘Siem Duo’ – Siem Aimery and Siem Moxie – have proven their capabilities of executing cable installation works to the highest safety- and quality standards within a challenging offshore environment. “Both vessels have demonstrated their advanced operability whereby cable lay, gangway, and post-trenching operations were undertaken at harsh winter weather condition.”
