UK civil construction company BAM Nuttall has been appointed as the principal contractor for the renovation works on two buildings at Wick Harbour, where Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL) will set up the O&M base for the Beatrice offshore wind farm.
The developer was granted consent to renovate the two buildings in January, and the construction works are scheduled to start soon.
On 24 August 2016, the BOWL Board approved the option to renovate and utilise two dis-used industrial buildings, located in the historic Conservation area of Lower Pulteneytown as the basis for the O&M base.
The project is worth GBP 10 million.
Meanwhile, the offshore construction works at the Beatrice offshore wind farm site are scheduled to start this year and the wind farm is expected to become fully operational in 2019.
Once the 588MW Beatrice OWF is in service, it will be operated from the Wick base throughout its 25-year lifespan.
The GBP 2.6 billion offshore wind farm is owned by SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) (35%) and Red Rock Power Ltd. (25%).
