Chinese shipbuilder Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has held a steel cutting ceremony for a jack-up wind farm installation vessel being built for Nantong Ocean Water Construction.

The steel for the vessel was cut on 28 February.

The jack-up is classed by China Classification Society (CCS).

Once constructed, the wind farm installation vessel will be able to operate in water depths of up to 40 metres.

China plans to invest CNY 2.5 trillion (USD 361 billion) in renewable energy projects by 2020, according to the country’s National Energy Administration (NEA).

With the new investments in place, China’s wind generation capacity will be increased by 210GW by 2020, NEA said.

Currently, China’s installed wind power capacity stands at around 176GW.
