The final phase of Galloper construction work at Sizewell beach in Suffolk is about to get underway, according to Galloper Wind Farm Limited (GWFL), the developer of the 336MW offshore wind project.
From Monday, 13 March, the construction area will be re-established at Sizewell beach where the Galloper team is preparing for the installation of the second and final export cable that will bring the power generated from the offshore wind farm to the onshore substation that will connect to the National Grid.
The works will be completed, and the site demobilized this summer, with the beach being returned to its original condition, GWFL said.
Ahead of the works, the project team has hosted a Galloper Local Liaison Committee meeting, sent newsletters to local residents, and this weekend, will be hosting public information drop-in sessions in Sizewell that have been advertised in the newsletters and local media.
Work is also continuing at the substation construction site north of Sizewell Gap Road and offshore, 40 of the 56 turbine foundations have now been installed. The installation of the 56 6MW Siemens turbines is expected to start in the early summer of 2017.
Galloper offshore wind farm, located approximately 30 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk, is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard wind farm and represents an expected investment potential of around GBP 1.5 billion.
innogy SE is leading the development and construction of the project on behalf of its partners who also include the UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital.
