GC Rieber Shipping’s construction support vessel Polar Queen has started operations with its new charterer, Senvion, supporting turbine commissioning at the 332MW Nordsee One wind farm in the German North Sea.

The vessel will provide transfer of personnel and cargoes and is fitted with a motion compensated gangway and boat landing to serve crew transfer vessels.

The contract is for 7 months firm with options to extend by up to 3 months.

The photo is showing the first gangway connection with personnel transfer between the vessel and a wind turbine.

GC Rieber Shipping sees this contract as an important step into the rapidly growing offshore wind market.

Nordsee One comprises 54 Senvion 6.2M-126 turbines, the first of which was installed earlier this month.

The wind farm is located some 40 kilometres north of Juist Island, and is expected to be commissioned in the summer of 2017.

Nordsee One GmbH, the owner and developer of the wind farm, is owned 85% by Canada’s Northland Power Inc. and 15% by innogy SE.
